In advance of its 19th installment of the event, the foundation is accepting proposals for its Champion’s Grant to gain support for “super ideas,” said Linda Yarger, the foundation’s president.
“Areas that might be considered are education, preventing drug use or homelessness,” Yarger said. “However, a project that you believe will positively impact our community in any way will be considered. We’re looking for ideas and projects that clearly are winners.”

The two proposals chosen as winners will be required to present their proposals via a 3 to 5-minute video at the Annual Celebration, she said. The champion will be selected by the voting of those in attendance at the Annual Celebration and will receive a $3,500 grant. The runner-up will receive a $1,500 grant.
The event also will honor Sally Braun and the late Dr. Stan Goodman as the foundation’s “Wall of Fame” recipients.
The Annual Celebration, which typically draws between 150 and 175 people, is “very important to remind people that we’re here.”
“We do a lot of work in the community that nobody hears about,” she said. “This is for awareness. We don’t bring in a great deal of money from it. What we do supports our grants and a little bit of our operations, putting on the event itself.”

This year’s Annual Celebration is a departure from the previous two installments, both of which sported a tailgate theme, Yarger said.
“We’re trying to keep it fresh and different because I think people get tired of going to dinners and sitting for a couple of hours and hearing speakers,” she said. “We’re able to accomplish the same thing within the same amount of time but in a way I think that everybody will enjoy.”
Choosing the Newbees as entertainment allows Fairfield Community Foundation to engage “a vast variety of age groups,” Yarger said.
